Molti rimangono affascinati dal crescere incessante degli Emirati. Kuwait, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar e Bahrain. Sono questi i nomi dell'eccellenza oggi. Ma non so perché ma ho come la sensazione che sia tutto finto, aleatorio, che si poggi su qualcosa che presto non ci sará piú. E non parlo solo del petrolio. Eppure, bisogna ammettere che clima a parte, i progetti di nuove cittá che si stanno costruendo su questi territori sono da sogno. Troppo spesso, peró, ci dimentichiamo che le donne, in quei paesi, non sono libere, che tutti isldi che hanno gli emiri, non vengono usati per finanziare la sanitá pubblica e nemmeno le ricerche in ambito medico o scientifico in generale. Che l'omosessualitá é un reato. Che l'istruzione é cara ed é prima di tutto per i maschi. Che non si puó ridere e parlare ad alta voce per strada, che non si puó fare il bagno in costume e nemmeno stare in spiaggia uomini e donne insieme. E non si puó festeggiare con un po' d'alcol. La cosa, onestamente, mi fa paura oltre che mettermi a disagio.
Many are fascinated by the incessant growth of the Emirates. Kuwait, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Qatar and Bahrain. These are the names of the excellence today. But I do not know why but I get the feeling that everything is fake, random, which lies on something that soon there won't be anymore. And I speak not only of oil. Yet, one must admit that, climate aside, the new city projects that are being built up here are like thise of the dreams. Too often, however, we forget that women in those countries are not free, that all the money of the emirs are not used to fund public health and even research in medicine or science in general. That homosexuality is a crime. That education is expensive and is primarily for males. That you can not laugh and talk loudly on the street, you can not swim or even stay in beachwear on the beach men and women together. And you can not celebrate with a little bit of alcohol. What, honestly, that scares me more than uneasy.
